Books You DNF (Did Not Finish)

This challenge is called Top 5 Wednesday created by Lainey from Goodreads. So, I’m a day late. Below you will find a list of the books I didn’t finish. It wasn’t always the book’s fault. Here is my list.

5) The Archived by Victoria Schwab – I just didn’t care about the plot or the characters.

4) Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller – I don’t know what I was reading. This may be my fault. I don’t think I’m ready for this type of book. I need to go back to school in order to grasp the concept.

3) Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte – I have every intention to finish this one. I just started to read another book and then 2 books in I forgot to go back to it. This is on my TBR (to be read) list.

2) Roomanitarian by Henry Rollins- I had to stop reading this book for my own good. My sanity was in question while consuming this book.

1) Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie- I simply adore Chimamanda. I learned about her when I saw her on TED talk. I found the “We Should All Be Feminists” TED talk to be awesome. So, it pains my heart to admit that this book started off on a good note and mid way through I hated every word. This book is pretentious and haughty. And, it was too long. Jouelzy gave a really good review of “Americanah.” Check it out here.

  1. Currently as My Jon Carter book is an collection my DNF includes the first 5 books of “John Carter of Mars.” I don’t know I usually like descriptive books but somehow this book just bored me to tears. I mean I know that excitement is about to happen, hell there has already been quite a bit of action in this book, I think it’s like before you get to the main course, or even the appetizers, Edgar Rice Burroughs has you at like this endless salad bar.

There is the promise of meat to come, hell of fried foods, dippable delicacies, and sticky sweets when it is all said and done, but here’s another bowl of salad. And here try these raw beets, have some kale, hold on don’t miss out on this celery, these carrots, the broccoli, watercress, bean sprouts, or the lettuce, so many heads of lettuce. You get full and you haven’t even actually got to the fun yet, maybe my mind just isn’t patient enough. I have too many distractions I used to love hard bound copies, oh well on to the next book soon.

      • Read the Hobbit first, it’s just as descriptive but it’s where the story begins. They only did Lord of the Rings first because it had all the fight scenes and they figured it would be more entertaining.

They were both entertaining, but they did stretch The Hobbit out something fierce, it’s one book they turned into 3 movies. Where as Lord of the Rings was actually 3 books
